Jeff Hardy vs. Nic Nemeth was one of the biggest reasons fans tuned into TNA iMPACT! on Thursday night. Then the match never happened.
Instead of seeing Hardy challenge for the TNA World Championship during the live broadcast, viewers found out the bout had actually been taped before the show and won’t air until the August 13 episode of iMPACT!. It didn’t take long for frustrated fans to flood social media, with many accusing TNA of making it look like the title match was happening live.
Rather than ignoring the backlash, Nemeth stepped in himself. The TNA World Champion took to Twitter and admitted the advertising caused confusion and accepted responsibility for not making the situation clearer, even though everyone involved knew the taping schedule ahead of time.
“The wording WAS confusing on the adverts, for a large part of the audience. We knew the schedule for weeks & as champ, I take responsibility for not conveying this clearer. Also; INCREDIBLE main event last night (& for weeks to come) + PHILLY AGAIN TONIGHT!”
The confusion only grew because TNA had heavily promoted the title match for July 31, with LeBron James even invited to hold the championship before the bout. Many fans naturally assumed that meant the match would headline the live episode, only to discover it had already taken place before the cameras went live.
Now, instead of watching Jeff Hardy challenge for the championship this week, fans will have to wait until August 13 to finally see Hardy and Nemeth square off.
