MJF is done with the fake “OTC” shirt drama, and he made that crystal clear after the person who created the phony merchandise image issued a full statement explaining what happened. The AEW star saw the apology, saw how seriously people were taking the whole thing, and basically told everyone involved to get off their phones.
The mess started after MJF began calling himself the “One True Champion” on AEW Dynamite. Fans quickly shortened that to “OTC,” which immediately sparked comparisons to Roman Reigns’ “Original Tribal Chief” nickname.
Then somebody created a fake piece of MJF merchandise using the OTC branding, and the image started spreading around like it was legitimate AEW merch. That led to fans accusing MJF and AEW of copying WWE before MJF himself stepped in and killed the story.
“Literally fake. F** off.”*
That should have been the end of it, but it wasn’t. The person behind the fake shirt, X user justixe, later posted a lengthy statement taking responsibility for creating the image. They apologized for making the fake design, said it was meant to be a harmless idea, and admitted it may have caused some damage to AEW’s reputation after people started treating it like a real piece of merchandise. They also called out people who cropped the original image and removed the “Not Available” portion, arguing that the edited version made the fake shirt look much more legitimate than it actually was.
MJF eventually saw the statement, and he clearly couldn’t believe things had gotten this far. Then came the line that pretty much ended the whole thing.
“Oh my god. The fact this poor person had to put out a statement literally is INSANE.”
“Everyone put your fucking phone down and go touch grass. The one true champion has spoken.”
The fan responded by thanking MJF and joking that whoever wrestles in the London main event is a fraud and should win that title too. MJF immediately shut that down. writing, “Ew don’t talk to me.” Classic MJF.
At this point, there really isn’t much left to argue about. The shirt was fake, the person who made it admitted it, and MJF has now responded twice to a controversy that never involved actual AEW merchandise in the first place.
Fans can still argue over whether “One True Champion” is too close to Roman Reigns’ OTC branding, but using that fake shirt as evidence is dead. MJF made sure of that.
