MJF took direct shots at Bret Hart during his appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, where he praised the WWE Hall of Famer’s career while also claiming the wrestling legend has been saying “crazy sh*t” for years after his concussion suffered against Goldberg.
The former AEW World Champion brought up the famous promo he cut on Bret Hart during the very first Double or Nothing before making it clear he doesn’t believe there’s any real personal issue between them. Still, MJF didn’t hold back when talking about Hart’s current public comments and behavior.
“This dude got rocked by Goldberg to the point where he had to retire. He’s saying crazy sht all the time and 99% of the time it doesn’t make sense.”*
MJF then said he believes Hart is “punch drunk” from his wrestling career before immediately calling him one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.
“I just think homie’s punch drunk and like, God bless him. He should be. He’s one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.”
That wasn’t the end of it either. MJF then shifted the conversation toward the longtime Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels debate and made it crystal clear where he stands. According to MJF, Shawn Michaels was superior to Bret Hart in nearly every category possible.
“He’s no Shawn Michaels, but he’s one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.”
MJF continued by praising Michaels as the better talker, better athlete, more exciting performer, and bigger overall star.
“He was the better talker, he was more athletic in the ring, was the better wrestler, he was more exciting, he drew you in more.”
He also argued that Bret Hart benefited from wrestling during a time period where his in-ring style stood out more than his promo ability.
“Bret was good at a time period where he was able to get away with being this incredible work-rate guy.”
MJF even questioned whether Bret Hart ever delivered the kind of unforgettable promo that had people talking the next day.
“Did you ever go to school and go, ‘Did you hear that Bret Hart promo?’”
The comments arrive just days before MJF challenges Darby Allin for the AEW World Championship at Double or Nothing in a hair vs. title match.
