MJF Allegedly Claimed Nobody Else Can Wear Plaid in Professional Wrestling

MJF apparently believes there’s one thing in professional wrestling nobody else should be allowed to touch — plaid.

Orange Cassidy revealed during a conversation with Simon Miller on Under The Mat With Simon Miller that MJF recently told him he essentially owns the pattern when it comes to wrestling. The subject came up while Cassidy and Miller were already joking around about MJF, and Cassidy suddenly remembered a conversation he had with him just one day earlier. According to Cassidy, MJF flat-out told him that other wrestlers should stay away from plaid because it belongs to him.

“That dude yesterday said to me, ‘I own plaid.’ He’s like, ‘No one else can wear plaid in professional wrestling because that’s my thing.’”

Cassidy wasn’t exactly buying the argument. He compared MJF claiming an entire pattern to somebody deciding that nobody else in wrestling can use a particular color. The more Cassidy thought about it, the more ridiculous the whole declaration sounded to him.

“Like the same way someone would be about, like, the color orange or something like that.”

“That’s an insane statement to make.”

MJF has made Burberry-style plaid one of the most recognizable parts of his presentation for years, from his scarves to massive pieces of entrance imagery. Cassidy still doesn’t think that means everyone else suddenly needs permission before reaching for anything plaid.

“Just because you make a giant flag of it doesn’t mean we all have to say, like, ‘Oh, you own plaid now.’ Get out of here.”

MJF has certainly done plenty to make plaid synonymous with his character, but apparently that branding has reached the point where he’s willing to stake a claim on the whole pattern. Cassidy, unsurprisingly, isn’t about to start recognizing wrestling’s new plaid ownership rules anytime soon.
