MJF just got hit with a straight-up theft accusation over one of his signature moves — and there was zero hesitation behind it. The AEW star’s Heat Seeker piledriver was called out as a ripoff of Adam Cole’s offense, with the accusation going way beyond one move.
During a rapid-fire sixty-second interview with Don Chenz, Swerve Strickland was asked to name the wackest finishing move in AEW. He barely needed a second before putting MJF on blast.
“MJF. It sucks and it was stolen from Adam Cole. He stole all of his shit.”
That’s about as direct as it gets. The move in question is MJF’s Heat Seeker, a piledriver variation that has been part of his offense for years. Swerve’s point was that MJF didn’t exactly invent the wheel, and he took the shot even further by accusing him of lifting more than just one piece of Adam Cole’s playbook.
That makes the dig even nastier considering MJF and Cole’s history. The two went from unlikely best friends during their Better Than You Bay Bay run to bitter enemies after their relationship completely imploded.
MJF has never exactly been shy about taking pieces from wrestling history and making them his own, but getting accused of outright stealing from somebody he once called his best friend is a different kind of shot.
There’s already no shortage of heat between MJF and Swerve either. Ringside News previously covered the backstage reaction after MJF dragged Swerve into his controversial “Diddy” promo, so this wasn’t coming from somebody looking to hand MJF a compliment.
MJF has also built a reputation for having plenty of say in what happens around his own programs. Ringside News previously detailed MJF’s creative influence over storylines involving him, which makes the accusation that he’s borrowing from Adam Cole even more hilarious.
One quick question turned into a full-on robbery accusation. MJF’s finisher got trashed, Adam Cole got credit for it, and MJF was basically accused of raiding somebody else’s move set on his way out the door. Whether MJF laughs this off or fires back is another story, but the accusation is already out there — and it came with absolutely no attempt to soften the blow.
