The Miz thinks wrestling fans obsessed with “five-star bangers” might be missing the point of what makes a wrestling show actually entertaining. As far as he’s concerned, WWE needs weird, different characters like Danhausen just as much as it needs guys capable of tearing the house down.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, The Miz addressed people questioning why Danhausen would be working with someone like GUNTHER. Rather than seeing the unusual pairing as a problem, Miz argued that the contrast is exactly what makes it interesting.
“People are like, ‘Why is Danhausen working with GUNTHER?’ Because it shows a different, unique perspective. WWE is not just pro wrestling — it’s entertainment. It shows GUNTHER not only retiring people, but he can also take on guys in comedy acts.”
Miz then took aim at the “smart marks” who seemingly want every match to be built around five-star performances and endless false finishes. In his eyes, WWE needs variety, especially when characters like Danhausen can connect with younger fans and move merchandise.
“WWE needs a Danhausen. The reason they need it is because WWE, as much as you wanna, you know, the ‘smart marks’ and people who listen to this show — the kids, look at their Halloween masks, look at the merch selling. It’s working. You need that type of match on a card.”
For Miz, having every match chase the same critically acclaimed style would actually make wrestling less interesting. No matter how good those matches might be individually, doing the same thing over and over eventually kills what makes any of them feel special.
“Because everything can’t be five-star bangers or, ‘Oh, false finish here, false finish here, false finish there.’ If every match is like that, it’s just the same thing. I like different. I like unique.”
That pretty much sums up Miz’s argument. He isn’t saying WWE should ditch great wrestling — he just doesn’t think every match needs to be designed for the “smart marks” chasing five-star classics, especially when something completely different can get over and sell a ton of merchandise at the same time.
Does The Miz have a point about wrestling becoming repetitive when every match tries to be a “five-star banger,” or do you think WWE should focus more heavily on in-ring quality? Let us know what you think in the comments.
