Michael Cole has called countless WWE moments over the years, but one of the ideas he’s always wondered about never even made it to television.
Speaking on The Sal Licata Show, Cole revealed that he and the late Bray Wyatt spent years developing a unique concept that would’ve presented Wyatt in a way fans had never seen before. The idea was inspired by one of the most infamous prison interview subjects in history.
According to Cole, Wyatt wanted to film a series of sit-down interviews modeled after the famous Charles Manson prison interviews, with Cole playing the role of the interviewer as Bray fully embraced the darkest version of his character.
“One of the stories Bray and I had worked on for a number of years… I’m trying to do a sit-down interview where it would be like Michael Cole interviewing Charles Manson in prison.”
Cole explained that the concept wasn’t just a rough pitch. The two had spent a long time developing it and had already mapped out how everything would play out.
“If you ever go back and watch the videotapes that were done with Manson in prison, it was an intriguing idea by Bray. We had even mapped it out, and the concept was ready to go, but for some reason it never happened.”
While the project ultimately never made it to WWE television, Cole still believes it could have become one of the defining pieces of Wyatt’s career. He envisioned the interviews unfolding over multiple episodes, slowly peeling back the layers of Bray’s twisted mind instead of relying on traditional in-ring promos.
“I thought that would have really—especially if it was a multiple-part interview series—I think it would have really helped Bray bring out that character more, and we could see that sick, sadistic side of that Bray Wyatt character.”
Bray Wyatt became known for constantly reinventing himself, from the original cult leader to The Fiend and beyond. Even so, Cole’s comments show there were still plenty of ideas that never reached the screen. Had this interview series happened, it could have offered one of the deepest looks yet into the unsettling psychology that made Wyatt one of WWE’s most unforgettable characters.
