Mercedes Moné didn’t just miss All Out—according to Tony Khan, her broken nose forced AEW to make some pretty significant changes behind the scenes. Now, fans finally have a better idea of how much her injury affected the pay-per-view and when she could be back.
During the AEW All Out media call, Khan was asked if Moné being pulled from the event because she wasn’t medically cleared changed the company’s creative plans. He didn’t need a long answer to get the point across, making it clear a lot of plans were changed.
That’s not all, because the AEW President also shared the most optimistic update yet on Moné’s recovery. While he stopped short of guaranteeing anything, he said AEW is expecting to have her back next month.
That fits with what AEW announced on Dynamite when Moné was officially ruled out of All Out. The company didn’t reveal what injury is keeping her sidelined, but it did announce that she’s scheduled to defend her championship at WrestleDream on October 17, provided she’s medically cleared. In the meantime, AEW has already set up her next challenger. Thekla and Willow Nightingale will face off, with the winner earning the title shot against Moné at WrestleDream once she returns.
It doesn’t sound like AEW is planning for Mercedes Moné to be out much longer. If everything stays on track, October could mark her return—and after Tony Khan admitted her injury changed “a lot” heading into All Out, it’ll be interesting to see what plans the company finally gets to put back in motion.
