Mercedes Moné still wants another match with Bayley, and she isn’t exactly being subtle about it. More than a decade after their NXT classic, Moné says running it back remains a “dream match” for her.
While speaking to the Daily Star, Moné was asked whether fans could ever see the longtime rivals wrestle again. She wasn’t about to promise anything, but she immediately made it clear the interest is still there.
“You never know in wrestling. That’s always, um, a dream match for me too, is to have another match with her. She is, uh, one of my greatest opponents of all time.”
There’s obviously plenty of history behind that answer. Moné and Bayley’s match at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn in 2015 became one of the defining matches of WWE’s women’s division, and Moné still believes what they did that night helped change how women’s wrestling was viewed.
“Uh, of course everybody knows our—one of our greatest matches together, Brooklyn. That’s really changed the way people viewed women’s wrestling.”
After everything they’ve done together, the CEO of AEW still isn’t treating that rivalry as finished, making it clear she isn’t ruling it out.
“But yeah, it’s always a dream match for me. It’s always a dream match for me. So you never know.”
The timing certainly makes the answer interesting. Bayley’s WWE future has already become a talking point after she posted a training video featuring Moné alongside the caption “all or nothing, baby” and used a song called “All In.” It was then reported that the video “did not land well with everyone” inside WWE and was viewed by some as eyebrow-raising.
There still hasn’t been a definitive answer on what Bayley plans to do once her current WWE deal reaches its end, so Moné’s “you never know” isn’t confirmation of anything. What it does confirm is that if their paths ever cross inside a ring again, Moné is absolutely interested in adding another chapter to one of the biggest rivalries of their careers.
