The inaugural AEW Redemption pay-per-view took place on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. AEW pay-per-views are known for title matches, and the TBS Championship didn’t disappoint.
Hikaru Shida defended the TBS Championship against Maya World, who entered the event looking to capture her first singles title in AEW. This match went on to kick off the pay-per-view’s second hour, and fans were ready for it.
Shida’s experience as one of the company’s most decorated champions was put to the test against the hungry challenger. As a former AEW Women’s World Champion, Shida has already proven that she can carry the division. On the other hand, Maya World had a lot to prove.
This match moved its way to the outside early on, where Shida took Maya World to her limit. The advantage stayed on Hikaru Shida’s side as she continued to wear her opponent down with move after move, including several near falls. She eventually turned her focus to submissions as Shida locked Maya World in a stretching hold until she finally got to the ropes.
Hikaru Shida eventually got a kendo stick involved in the match, but Maya World kicked it out of her hand. Then, World did her best to regain control, but she missed on a dive to open things up for Shida once again.
In the end, Maya World pulled off an upset win to walk away with the TBS Championship. Hikaru Shida was very upset as she smashed her kendo stick around the ringside area. Only time will tell what is next for them, but Maya World is now a champion in AEW.
