Maya World doesn’t actually care that Dave Meltzer never rated her Forbidden Door match with Mercedes Moné, but she does think his decision to skip it makes him look “kind of crazy.” After all the drama surrounding the missing rating, Maya says people have taken what was supposed to be an online joke way too seriously.
Speaking with Adrian Hernandez, Maya was asked directly whether she cared about Meltzer never giving the match a rating. She made it clear that the jokes she and others made online weren’t nearly as serious as some fans apparently believed.
“I don’t care. And it’s like everybody else could joke about it online, but I can’t joke about it. They’re like, ‘Why do y’all even care that he’s not rating it?’ I’m like, ‘We can’t just have, like, a little silly, silly goofy moment? Like, we can’t just laugh about it?’”
“But no, it just makes him kind of look crazy. And I’m going to leave it at that.”
Maya also shut down the idea that there’s some actual feud between herself and Meltzer. Someone even asked her about their supposed “beef,” which confused her because she doesn’t see one existing at all.
“Someone asked me and they were like, ‘What is this beef with you and Dave Meltzer?’ I was like, ‘We don’t have beef.’ I’m like so confused. Like, I’m chilling. He’s chilling. He just didn’t rate the match. I don’t care at this point.”
Still, Maya doesn’t really understand why Meltzer couldn’t simply give the match whatever rating he thought it deserved. Even if he thought it was a one-star match, she said that wouldn’t change how she or the people who enjoyed it feel about what happened at Forbidden Door.
“But like you said, it just looks weird on him. Like, just rate it. If you think it’s a one-star match, that’s not going to change my mind on it or anybody else who watched it. You know what I mean? So I don’t really care.”
The whole situation started after Meltzer rated the other matches from Forbidden Door but held off on Maya and Moné’s Owen Hart Cup match. He said the reaction he experienced live was different from the reaction of people watching on television, so he wanted to watch it back before putting a number on it.
Mercedes later tagged Meltzer with a “Well… we’re waiting” GIF, which led to fans accusing her of caring too much about his star ratings. Maya’s comments now make her side pretty clear: she isn’t chasing Meltzer’s approval, there’s no personal beef, but she still thinks leaving the match unrated looks weird.
At this point, Maya seems more amused by how seriously everyone has taken the situation than bothered by the missing rating itself. Whatever number Meltzer might have given the match isn’t going to change how she feels about it.
