Maxxine Dupri has no patience for WWE fans complaining that WWE Unreal pulls the curtain back too far — and she made that crystal clear.
During a recent interview with WittyWhittier , Dupri was asked about the Netflix series and the debate surrounding how much backstage material WWE should actually show. Some fans have argued that exposing creative discussions, production decisions and other behind-the-scenes elements takes away from the magic of professional wrestling.
Maxxine sees it completely differently. For her, shows like WWE Unreal are part of what helped get her interested in WWE in the first place. Dupri pointed directly to Total Divas, explaining that she has always enjoyed seeing the side of the wrestling business fans normally don’t get on television.
“I fell in love with this from Total Divas, so I’m always going to stand 10 toes down with anything that shows that other side of our business because I personally just really enjoy that.”
Dupri also pushed back against the idea that WWE Unreal is giving away everything. She noted that WWE cameras are rolling for an enormous amount of time, while fans ultimately only receive a small portion of that footage in the finished series.
“They’re filming all year. So, there’s hours and hours and hours of footage for these six episodes, right? So, it’s like even though people think, ‘Oh my gosh, we’re seeing too much,’ or this and that, like you’re still just getting a little taste.”
Then Maxxine stopped being diplomatic. When it came to fans getting angry over WWE revealing too much, Dupri questioned why anyone would keep watching something they clearly don’t enjoy.
“At the end of the day, I don’t know why everyone’s up in arms. If you don’t want to watch something, don’t watch it. Do you have no willpower? No self-discipline? Like, my goodness, it’s crazy.”
She finished her response with an even simpler solution for WWE Unreal critics.
“I think it’s an incredible show and if you don’t like it, hit next.”
That pretty much sums up where Maxxine stands. WWE Unreal isn’t going to be for every wrestling fan, especially those who would rather keep the creative process behind closed doors, but Dupri isn’t interested in hearing complaints from people who willingly keep pressing play.
