Crown Jewel is still scheduled for Saudi Arabia, but the mood inside WWE isn’t getting any calmer. A new backstage update says more and more people within the company are looking for answers as the November 7 trip gets closer, and so far, they haven’t gotten many.
According to JoeyVotes during WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, people who regularly travel to WWE’s Saudi Arabia events have been asking internally whether anything is going to change. That includes questions about revised travel plans, possible schedule changes, or even whether the show could ultimately be pushed back if the current situation worsens.
“Regarding the scheduled November 7th Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia, we’re told several people within the company who regularly travel to these events have been asking internally whether there will be any changes, revisions, or potential rescheduling of the show.”
The concern isn’t coming from just one corner of WWE, either. JoeyVotes said the conversations have spread throughout the company, with people backstage at TV tapings and employees inside WWE headquarters in Stamford all wondering what happens next. The uncertainty surrounding travel has become one of the biggest talking points internally.
“Given the ongoing conflicts and the uncertain nature surrounding the required travel, we’re told that the chatter both backstage at television and within WWE headquarters at Stamford remains one of large concern.”
What’s adding to that uncertainty is that, according to the report, WWE still hasn’t formally addressed the situation with staff.
“As of this writing, according to a source, WWE has yet to formally acknowledge the situation to its staff.”
JoeyVotes also made it clear that nobody they’ve spoken to has been told what the final decision will be. He added that something this significant would almost certainly be handled by a very small group of executives, meaning most people inside the company likely won’t know anything until WWE is ready to announce it.
This report builds on what had already been a developing story. Earlier reports revealed that WWE was discussing the U.S. State Department’s Level 3 travel advisory internally while still expecting to keep the November 7 event on the calendar. At the time, the belief was that even if Saudi Arabia became an issue, WWE would likely keep the date because of its existing commitment with ESPN.
Nothing has officially changed, and Crown Jewel is still set for Riyadh on November 7. But the closer the event gets, the more questions people inside WWE have—and until the company addresses them, the speculation probably isn’t going anywhere.
