Matt Hardy isn’t playing nice anymore when it comes to the WWE buying TNA rumors.
Hardy already tried to explain the situation on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast. His point was simple enough: TNA is not being bought by WWE right now. He also admitted that anything could happen years from now if the company stops growing, and that one line was enough to light the whole thing on fire.
Burt Maclin saw the quote going around and wasn’t having it. He took to X and made it clear he thought Hardy should be killing the WWE buyout talk completely instead of giving people even a tiny window to run with.
“Why the f*ck is he saying that. The goal should be to shut this narrative down.”
Hardy didn’t let that slide. He jumped in and made it very clear that he wasn’t trying to feed some fantasy WWE takeover story. He said he was telling the truth, and he took a pretty direct shot at people who don’t.
“Because I am telling the fucking truth. I’m one of few that does. TNA is not being sold to WWE, there’s only discussion on how to grow TNA. That is our goal.”
Then Hardy doubled down on the bigger picture. He said TNA has grown a lot over the last two years, but the work isn’t finished. The goal now is making the company stronger and more profitable, not putting a for-sale sign on the front door.
“We have grown tremendously over the last 2 years. But we must continue to grow & make the brand more profitable. It’s what the talent wants, it’s what Carlos & the office wants. Myself & Jeff are busting our asses for TNA & believe we can truly grow the product for the greater good.”
Hardy also addressed the part that started the whole mess. Yes, he admitted a sale could happen years from now if things don’t grow. No, he doesn’t want that. He made it clear that nobody who actually supports TNA should be rooting for that ending.
“If that doesn’t happen & there’s no growth in 4-5 years, who the hell knows? Yeah, it could be sold. Nobody that truly supports TNA should ever want that though. I believe in the current roster. Call me crazy, but I believe in TNA.”
The whole thing got messy because wrestling fans love running with the worst possible version of a quote. Hardy left a little room for reality, and suddenly people acted like he was handing WWE the keys to the building. His response makes one thing clear: he believes in TNA, and he’s sick of people twisting that into something else.
Do you think Matt Hardy handled this the right way, or should he have shut down the WWE buyout talk without leaving any room for “maybe later”? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
