Matt Cardona already has a target for his WWE comeback after undergoing surgery for a torn triceps, and it’s considerably sooner than the timeline his surgeon gave him. Cardona isn’t interested in spending any more time at home than absolutely necessary.

Speaking on The Broski Breakdown, Cardona was asked how long he expects to be sidelined following surgery. His surgeon gave him a five-month recovery timeline, but Cardona immediately made it clear that isn’t the timeline he has in mind.

“The surgeon said five. I’m gonna try to do it in three.”

Cardona isn’t just throwing three months out there because he wants to get back quickly. He pointed to his previous injuries and said he has managed to return ahead of schedule before because of how hard he attacks the rehabilitation process. Sitting at home and collecting a paycheck simply isn’t how he wants to spend the next several months.

“I got back from my other injuries faster because I’m busting my ass. I don’t want this vacation. I don’t—some people like sitting home getting their check. I don’t like that. No. I like to hustle. I like to work.”

That means Cardona has already given himself a pretty aggressive goal. Instead of accepting the five months his surgeon gave him, he plans on putting everything into rehab and seeing if he can shave two months off that estimate.

“So, uh, I’ll be working my ass off to get back, uh, in three months or so.”

Cardona underwent surgery on August 25 after tearing his triceps just days earlier. He revealed the injury on August 23 and had initially left open some hope that surgery might not be necessary, but that possibility disappeared when he posted from the hospital ahead of the procedure.

The injury came at a particularly rough time for Cardona. He had recently worked his way back into WWE, including a match against GUNTHER on the August 14 episode of SmackDown, before the torn triceps suddenly put everything on hold.

Five months is what the surgeon gave him. Three months is what Cardona wants. Considering how badly he wants off the couch and back to work, he clearly plans on making rehab its own full-time job.
