Independent wrestler Matt Cage stopped everything after a recent match and confronted a fan who allegedly called him a racial slur from the crowd.
Cage, who is Black, addressed the situation in front of the entire building and made it clear he wasn’t going to let the comment slide. He first called out the bigotry before turning his attention directly toward the woman accused of using the slur.
“If there’s one thing that I can’t stand, it’s some bigotry. If there’s one thing that I can’t stand in the year of our Lord 2026, it’s somebody that has the gall to open up their toothless, stank-ass, halitosis breath to say anything to me with some bigotry.”
Cage then pointed the fan out and told the crowd he was about to make the moment uncomfortable because she had already made him uncomfortable during the match.
“That brings my attention to this woman over here. It’s so interesting that you have a cane, which means that you probably have trouble walking. But let me walk you through this real quick, sweetheart. I’m about to make y’all uncomfortable; she just made me uncomfortable. She fixed her lips to call me a N****.”*
He then made it clear that he was proud of who he was and challenged the woman to repeat the word to his face. Cage finished by warning that there would be consequences if she used that language again inside the building.
“I’m proud of who the f** I am. Can you say the same? Well, why don’t you stand up without that cane and say it to my face again? Call me a N***** again.”*
“Because I guarantee you this: If you do, it’ll be the last time that you ever fix your lips to say those words to anyone of any race in this building.”
Those in attendance said the fan did not respond while Cage confronted her. He later gave her the chance to apologize, and she offered a brief response.
“I apologize.”
Cage’s post-match confrontation immediately became the biggest story from the event. Instead of ignoring the alleged slur and leaving the ring, he stopped in front of the crowd and forced the fan to answer for what had been said.
