Layla Shuts Down WWE In-Ring Comeback Talk Unless LayCool Gets The Call

Layla is back around the wrestling world again, but fans shouldn’t expect her to start taking bumps anytime soon.

During an interview with Chris Van Vliet, the former WWE Women’s Champion talked about stepping back into the public eye after being gone for nearly a decade. Layla said she wanted to return to working events and appearances, but Chris quickly made sure she wasn’t talking about getting back inside the ring. Layla shut that idea down right away.

“Oh god, no, no. I meant just coming out there like, you know, working events and stuff like that. I left a lot of money, I think, on the table when I did walk away. I still think that, you know, it’s nice to go to wrestling events and, like you were saying, the nostalgia and stuff like that. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. For me, since I’ve been gone for so long, it’s nice to go back.”

Chris then pointed out that Layla sounded like she would never have another match again. That’s when she made it clear she is not trying to launch some comeback run, but she also isn’t completely slamming the door if the right LayCool situation ever came along with Michelle McCool.

“Well, I’m so — my goodness. No, I’m too old. I’m out of shape. You know what I mean? I can’t say never because I feel like if there was ever an opportunity, like for Michelle and I to do something like LayCool or something like that, like, of course, not a run. I don’t know, but if there was ever that opportunity, I think that would be so wrong of me to not do that. Do you know what I mean? That’s the only thing.”

That answer says a lot. Layla isn’t sitting around waiting for WWE to call her for a singles match, and she clearly doesn’t want to jump back in just to embarrass herself or hurt the legacy she built during her run. She doubled down on that point and admitted she would rather leave her career untouched than force something that doesn’t need to happen.

“So to me, that would be the only thing I think I would come back for. But am I, like, trying to have a match or anything like that right now? No. Sorry, no one wants to see it. I just don’t want to embarrass myself. I don’t want to tarnish what I’ve had in my past career kind of thing. So I’d rather, if I never come back, then I’ll just rather leave it the way it was.”

Layla has been very protective of her WWE legacy, and this makes it clear that any in-ring return would need to actually mean something. A random spot doesn’t sound like it’s enough, but a LayCool reunion with Michelle McCool is the one idea that still has her attention.

LayCool remains one of the most memorable acts from the Divas Era, and a reunion would definitely get fans talking. Still, Layla isn’t chasing that moment, and unless WWE has the right idea on the table, she seems perfectly fine keeping her boots retired.

Would you want to see Layla return for one more LayCool moment with Michelle McCool, or should she leave her WWE career exactly where it ended? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comments.
