Lars Sullivan went nuclear on wrestling journalist David Bixenspan, then apparently decided he didn’t want the post sitting on his page anymore. The former WWE star took a nasty personal shot at Bixenspan on September 16, but by the next day, the post had been deleted without any explanation.
Sullivan originally posted a photo of Bixenspan and skipped straight past any setup, accusation or argument. He just named Bixenspan and dropped an ableist insult out of nowhere.
“David bixenspan is developmentally retarded.”
That post didn’t stay up for long. Sullivan later deleted it, but he didn’t follow the move with an apology, clarification or any explanation for why he targeted Bixenspan in the first place.
Bixenspan isn’t some random wrestling fan Sullivan stumbled across online either. He’s a longtime wrestling journalist whose work has appeared in outlets including SB Nation, Bleacher Report, Deadspin and Motherboard, and he has also worked as a researcher on Dark Side of the Ring.
There’s also some old history between Bixenspan and one of the ugliest stretches of Sullivan’s WWE run. Back in 2019, Bixenspan pushed WWE for answers after the company fined Sullivan $100,000 over offensive comments from his past and ordered him to undergo sensitivity training.
Bixenspan specifically asked WWE whether Sullivan was being punished for the old posts themselves or for failing to disclose them before signing with the company. WWE responded that the punishment covered the entire situation, putting Bixenspan directly in the middle of one of the biggest controversies surrounding Sullivan’s WWE career.
That doesn’t prove Sullivan’s September 16 attack had anything to do with what happened seven years ago. Sullivan never gave a reason for targeting Bixenspan, but the 2019 WWE fine remains one very obvious connection between the two.
Bixenspan has also stayed involved in plenty of wrestling controversies since then. Road Dogg recently accused him of circulating screenshots of conservative social-media posts to hurt his chances of landing work with AEW, although a source inside AEW later pushed back on the idea that Road Dogg’s political views were the reason he didn’t get the job.
Sullivan, meanwhile, has been firing off controversial posts of his own lately. Ringside News has already covered him taking shots at Nyla Rose, going after Bronson Reed and making other inflammatory remarks online, and Bixenspan became his latest target before Sullivan decided to erase the post.
Whatever made Sullivan fire that shot, he clearly didn’t want it living on his timeline for very long. He posted it, people saw it, and then it vanished with zero explanation.
