Roman Reigns walked into the August 3 episode of WWE Raw ready to celebrate his SummerSlam victory, but LA Knight turned the entire thing into a public roast. One night after Roman defeated Seth Rollins to remain World Heavyweight Champion, Knight stormed the ring, called him a fraud and demanded the clean title match Roman has avoided giving him.
Raw opened with Roman bragging about everything he has done, including winning the Royal Rumble, beating the “old man” at WrestleMania, owning the summer and putting Seth Rollins down at SummerSlam. Roman even showed Seth some respect, saying the two may have finally found peace after years of bad blood.
Then Knight showed up and wrecked the celebration. Knight congratulated Roman for finally winning a major match without The Bloodline doing the dirty work, but said that still did not change what he believes Roman really is. He demanded a true one-on-one championship match with no cousins, no backup and no excuses, offering to fight Roman immediately, next week, at Money in the Bank or even at WrestleMania.
Roman refused and went straight for the insults. He mocked Knight’s “megastar” nickname, laughed at his watch and questioned what Knight had actually accomplished. Roman argued that beating his cousins in a six-man tag match did not make Knight worthy of a title shot and said complaining would not get him anywhere near the championship.
Knight did not back down. He accused Roman of hiding behind numbers for years and said holding the title was the only reason anyone believed Roman was on another level. Knight then told Roman he was lightning in a bottle and threatened to knock him back to his factory settings.
Roman may have left without accepting the challenge, but Knight made sure the segment did not feel like a victory lap. He embarrassed the champion in front of the crowd, exposed the one accusation Roman still cannot shake and made it clear he is not leaving the title picture quietly.
