AA Verano de Escándalo opened with a major title change as La Hiedra and Laredo Kid ended the reign of Lola Vice and Mr. Iguana.
The AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship match went down during the July 25 show from Arena San Marcos in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Hiedra entered the match determined to reclaim the championship after previously holding the belts with Iguana.
Laredo Kid and Iguana started things off by trading pinning combinations before the match quickly became personal. Laredo slapped Iguana across the face, only for the champion to answer with an armbar and dropkick.
Vice and Hiedra then took over, with Vice using kicks and open-hand strikes to keep the challenger from building any momentum. Hiedra eventually gained control outside the ring by hitting Vice with a stunner before throwing her back inside.
The champions nearly retained after Iguana hit a springboard headbutt and crucifix driver. Laredo answered with a Michinoku Driver and 450 splash, but Iguana kicked out before the count of three.
Vice later drilled Hiedra with a superkick and appeared to have the match won, but Laredo broke up the pin. Iguana responded with an Iguanarana to the outside, only for Laredo to recover and send him crashing into the steel steps.
That left Vice alone inside the ring. Hiedra took advantage by planting Vice face-first into the mat and covering her for the three-count, officially crowning La Hiedra and Laredo Kid as the new AAA World Mixed Tag Team Champions.
The victory finally gave Hiedra her championship back after several failed attempts with different partners. This time, Laredo Kid proved to be the missing piece as the two walked out of Verano de Escándalo with the gold.
