Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that there were plans for Kurt Angle to return to action before he was named the replacement for Roman Reigns at this past Sunday’s WWE TLC event.

The belief is they were holding off his return until WrestleMania 34, however Vince McMahon made the call once Reigns got the mumps. The company felt angle’s return was equally special as The Shield reunion. There is also the sense in the company that WWE sacrificed what could have been a huge deal in terms of a build toward Angle coming out of retirement in order to save TLC.
