Scott Hall may have been one of the coolest wrestlers in the business, but Kevin Nash says life on the road occasionally left The Bad Guy smelling rough. According to Nash, Hall’s body hair sometimes created a body-odor problem—and his solution involved an extremely careful splash of Brut cologne.
The subject came up on the Kliq This podcast during a discussion about Zoey Stark’s comments regarding poor hygiene in professional wrestling. Stark had talked about encountering wrestlers whose smell became impossible to ignore during physical contact in the ring.
Nash explained that hygiene could become difficult during WWE’s old touring schedule. Wrestlers would tape several weeks of television over three days before spending more than three weeks working live events. Some performers could wrestle as many as four matches during a television day.
“We would start the tour, and you would do the live Raw. Then, for the next two weeks, you would do all your TV in three days. Then you went out and worked for another 23 days, whatever it was. Then you’d come home for four, and then you’d go back to TV.”
With that much wrestling packed into a short period, Nash said talent had to clean their gear in hotel sinks to stop it from becoming unusable.
“If you weren’t smart, you could fuck up a good portion of your gear at TV because you might have four matches a day.”
“You had to put Woolite in the sink.”
Nash then brought up Hall. He said Hall’s body hair sometimes left him with noticeable body odor, but Hall kept Brut cologne around to deal with the situation. Hall apparently treated the Brut like an expensive fragrance instead of pouring it on. Nash joked that his longtime friend applied it so carefully that it looked like someone using Chanel No. 5.
“Sometimes Scott, because he was so hairy, he’d have a little B.O. going, and you’d be like, ‘Dude.’”
“I swear to God—and I wish Kid was here to back me on this—but he would have a bottle of Brut, and he would splash that shit on so gingerly that you would think it was like a woman putting Chanel No. 5 on.”
Nash also made it clear that Hall had no problem calling out somebody else for smelling bad.
“He would be the first one to point out somebody else’s beefaroni.”
Hall’s Brut routine offers a very different look at life behind the curtain during WWE’s brutal touring era. The wrestlers might have looked untouchable on television, but after weeks on the road and several matches in one day, even Razor Ramon needed help keeping up appearances.
