Kenny Omega is back on top of AEW, and he did not waste much time speaking out after winning the company’s biggest prize again.
The July 8 episode of AEW Dynamite closed with MJF defending the AEW World Championship against Omega in a huge main event. The match carried massive stakes, because if Omega lost, he would never be allowed to challenge for the AEW World Title again.
That did not happen. Omega defeated MJF to capture the AEW World Championship for the second time, ending Friedman’s run and putting himself right back on top of the mountain. After the match, Omega took to X and made it clear how much the win meant after a long road back to the title.
“After 1,698 days of waiting to get it back, we finished the race. Thank you for never giving up on me and always believing, one more time.”
Omega’s win came after a wild finishing stretch that saw MJF try to use the Dynamite Diamond Ring before Will Ospreay ran down and took it away. Omega also had a chance to use the title belt, but hesitated. MJF then hit him with a low blow and a title shot, only for Omega to kick out at one.
From there, Omega stormed back and finished MJF with three V-Triggers and a One Winged Angel to become AEW World Champion again. Now Omega has the title, MJF has every reason to be furious, and Ospreay’s involvement leaves AEW with a lot to deal with coming out of Dynamite. For Omega, though, the message was simple. After 1,698 days, he finally got the championship back.
