Kendal Grey is not pretending she has everything figured out in WWE just yet.
During her appearance on TMZ Inside the Ring, CJ Perry asked Grey how long it took her to create her character and what influenced it. Grey did not give some polished answer about having the whole thing locked down. Instead, she admitted she is still building who she is in front of the WWE audience. Grey said the process is ongoing, and that is part of what excites her.
“Honestly, I still am developing who I am that. Honestly, I feel like that’s going to be a never ending loop of trying to showcase new things and showcase yourself. I feel like I’m still learning and I’m still, you know, developing that character. I feel like there’s always going to be room for development. So that’s what I’m super excited for.”
That is a pretty honest answer from someone still early in her run. Grey has the athletic background, the in-ring tools, and the upside, but the character side is something she is still finding in real time. She also said she has been able to show more of herself lately, and that staying authentic is the main goal.
“I feel like lately I’ve been able to show a little more about me every single time. And that’s what I love about this business is that you’re never going to get to a point that you have nowhere else to go or nowhere else to learn. But for me, I just try to be like really myself, like just be authentic to myself and be proud of who I am and be able to show that to people.”
That is the kind of answer fans can connect with. Grey is not trying to force some fake personality just to get a reaction. She is letting people see more of her as she gets more comfortable on camera and in the ring.
Grey also made it clear that she has learned not everyone is going to like her, and she is becoming fine with that.
“I just try to really be myself and be proud of myself and love myself for who I am, whether other people do or not.”
Kendal Grey is still developing, but that might be the point. WWE fans are getting to watch her grow piece by piece, and that could make her journey in NXT even more interesting.
