Ever since Kayla Braxton walked away from WWE, fans have wondered whether she would eventually pop up in AEW. According to Braxton, that was never part of the plan.

While speaking with TMZ Sports’ Inside The Ring, the former WWE broadcaster addressed the idea of joining another wrestling promotion and made it clear she left WWE to pursue something completely different. Braxton said she was upfront about that from the very beginning. For Braxton, the decision came down to a simple question.

“Well, I think when I left WWE, I made it very clear I was not going to AEW or any other wrestling company.”

“Why would I leave? Why would I, Why would I leave the biggest wrestling company in the world to go to another. Cause, like, why? It’s like, obviously I wanted to do something else besides wrestling.”

That hasn’t stopped some wrestling fans from questioning her decision. Braxton revealed that she still gets criticism online from people who don’t understand why she chose to leave WWE behind. Speaking about reactions to her new ventures, Braxton shared one recent example.

“Even yesterday I posted my Buzzer show, Kayla Becker Live obviously launched. And someone’s like, oh, really? You left WWE to go do some like no name startup show. I’m like, what is your problem?”

Braxton’s post-WWE career has included acting projects, sports media work and hosting duties, proving that her ambitions stretched far beyond the wrestling business.

While plenty of former WWE personalities have jumped to AEW over the years, Braxton says she never viewed that as her next move. Instead, she wanted to find out what she could accomplish outside the wrestling bubble. Whether fans agree with her decision or not, she seems perfectly happy carving out her own path.
