Karmen Petrovic is changing things up in WWE NXT—and fans have already noticed something missing.
Petrovic recently appeared without the sword that has been a major part of her entrance since arriving in NXT. Now she has confirmed the change was intentional as she moves forward alongside Nattie and Nikkita Lyons.
Speaking with The Dallas Morning News, Petrovic said the sword will always be connected to her, even when she is not carrying it to the ring.
“The sword is a part of me, so whether I hold it or not, it’s always there. For me, I’m a walking weapon, so sometimes I don’t need it on my shoulder.”
Petrovic explained that she wants fans to stop seeing her as only “the sword girl.” With her new faction taking shape, she wants the focus placed on what she can do instead of the prop she carries.
“Going forward with the new faction in NXT that I’m part of with Natty, I want to give 110% of myself so people aren’t only thinking, ‘Karmen’s the sword girl.’ Karmen’s a badass whether or not she has a sword.”
The sword is not gone forever. Petrovic left the door open for it to return later, but it will not be part of her regular presentation for now. Petrovic also praised Nattie for helping guide her through this next phase of her WWE career. She said the veteran gave her advice about staying focused even when plans change around her.
“It could come back in the near future, or it could take some time, but it’s definitely not gone forever.”
“She told me to keep my head above the water. The currents can always change, but as long as you stay swimming and keep your head up, it keeps going.”
Karmen Petrovic is stripping away one of the biggest pieces of her character and betting on herself. The sword may return eventually, but right now she wants fans paying attention to the woman carrying it—not the weapon.
