Karen Jarrett has plenty of history in TNA and AEW, and she just made it very clear which boss she believes took better care of talent.
While speaking on My World with Jeff Jarrett, Karen was asked about Tony Khan and the way people online come after the AEW president. Karen did not hold back, saying Khan gets far more hate than he deserves.
“That man gets so much sh– online that he does not deserve. He is one of the kindest human beings that I have met.”
Karen then turned the conversation toward money, and that is where Dixie Carter’s name came up. Karen compared her experience around Carter’s TNA to Khan’s AEW, and she said Khan goes out of his way to compensate the people working for him.
“I can say this since we’re on the subject of these two people, where Dixie wouldn’t compensate talent or wouldn’t compensate female wrestlers, Tony Khan goes above and beyond to compensate his wrestlers and the people that work for him, maybe sometimes too much in my opinion, but he takes care of the people that work for him, no matter what level you’re on.”
Those comments line up with what Awesome Kong said on this week’s Dark Side of the Ring premiere. Kong spoke about asking TNA for a raise, being told her points were not disputed, and later realizing she made less than a McDonald’s manager while multiple Knockouts champions were working second jobs.
Karen has seen both sides of this story up close. She spent years around TNA under Carter, and later appeared in AEW with Jeff Jarrett, who also works as an executive for the company.
Karen also talked about how her AEW run helped pull her back into wrestling after she had reached a point where she was happy being away from the business. She said Ric Flair’s Last Match helped start that feeling again.
“I was in a place where I did not miss the business and was really happy where I was in life.”
Once she got around wrestling again, Karen realized she missed it more than she knew.
“It was like, I didn’t realize how much I missed being around the business, and wanted to be back in. I don’t think I knew that.”
The timing of Karen’s comments is interesting, because the interview came out the same day Dark Side of the Ring launched its three-part story on Jeff Jarrett and TNA. With TNA’s old business practices getting fresh attention, Karen’s defense of Tony Khan also came with a pretty direct shot at how Dixie Carter handled talent pay. Karen Jarrett clearly sees Tony Khan as someone who takes care of his people, even if she thinks he may go too far with it sometimes. Either way, she made sure fans knew where she stands.
