Road Dogg claimed his political beliefs killed an opportunity with AEW, but someone inside the company is now pushing back hard on that story.
Sean Ross Sapp addressed the situation during a Fightful Select Q&A after Road Dogg publicly claimed that his conservative social-media posts were used against him and cost him a chance to work for AEW. According to Sapp, an AEW source reached out directly and denied that Road Dogg’s politics had anything to do with the company not bringing him in. Sapp said he had previously covered Road Dogg’s 2020 argument with Shawn Michaels, but he made it clear that wasn’t what kept Road Dogg out of AEW.
“I reported that stuff. I reported the argument that he had with Shawn Michaels in 2020, but that didn’t cost him an AEW job.”
Sapp then revealed that someone from AEW contacted him specifically to shoot down Road Dogg’s claim. According to that source, the explanation was much simpler: AEW just wasn’t interested in bringing Road Dogg aboard.
“I had someone in AEW reach out to me and say, ‘That’s not why we didn’t bring him in.’”
“It just wasn’t the option. It wasn’t an interest.”
That directly conflicts with what Road Dogg said on August 19. After getting into an online argument over Tony Khan’s use of Austin and Colten Gunn, Road Dogg claimed he had already been turned away by AEW because of his political and core beliefs.
“Actually, I was turned away because of my political/core beliefs. That happened IN AMERICA. I didn’t donate to or vote for Trump, BUT his old man did, why was I punished?”
Road Dogg then blamed David Bixenspan, accusing him of taking screenshots of conservative posts from his social-media accounts and using them to get an AEW opportunity canceled.
“This is the guy that screenshot my social media post (I am conservative) and then used it to get my opportunity canceled. I feel differently than a lot of you. I’m not sorry for who I am and how I was raised.”
Road Dogg did not provide evidence showing that Bixenspan caused AEW to cancel an opportunity, and now an AEW source is flatly denying that Road Dogg’s political beliefs were the reason the company passed on him.
That leaves two very different versions of the story. Road Dogg believes his politics were used against him, while a source inside AEW says politics had nothing to do with it and the company simply wasn’t interested.
