Kam Hendrix didn’t exactly get the answer he wanted when he tried to talk his way into the John Cena Classic on NXT. Less than a day later, though, Hendrix made it pretty clear he isn’t taking John Cena’s response as the end of the story.
Following the November 4 edition of NXT, Hendrix took to Twitter and reacted to his exchange with Cena. His message was short, but he clearly isn’t giving up on eventually getting that tournament opportunity.
“Delays Are Not Denials #DAND”
That came after Hendrix approached Cena backstage during NXT and basically assumed his invitation to the John Cena Classic was already waiting. Calling it a conversation from one GOAT to another, Hendrix confidently asked Cena who he would be facing in the tournament.
“Lemme holla at you real quick, GOAT to GOAT. I see you giving out invitations. Who’s my opponent for the John Cena Classic? Because you know I’m the best all-around athlete in NXT, baby.”
Cena wasn’t nearly as convinced. Instead of handing Hendrix a spot, he gave him a little reality check before telling him there was another opponent he should be worrying about first.
“Showtime, I heard it said before that if you’re good, you’ll tell everyone, and if you’re great, they’ll tell you. So instead of focusing on the John Cena Classic, I’d like to tell you that you should focus on your opponent for next week — E.K. Prosper.”
Cena may have redirected Hendrix toward E.K. Prosper for now, but Hendrix is already treating the setback like a delay rather than a closed door. That leaves him with an obvious way to keep making his case — handle the opponent Cena just put in front of him and make himself a little harder to ignore.
