John Cena was asked to describe his perfect day, and things got very personal by the time he reached bedtime.
During his appearance on TODAY’s Making Space with Hoda Kotb, Hoda Kotb asked Cena what he would do if he had an entire day with absolutely nothing on his calendar.
Cena’s answer revolved almost entirely around spending time with wife Shay Shariatzadeh. He said the day would start early so the two could maximize their time together, beginning with coffee, breakfast and a conversation about whatever they had coming up.
“Wake up early with my wife. That way we can enjoy the most time together. Uh, sit in the comfort of a safe space in our home. Uh, she would allow me to make us both, um, lattes. And I would not only make the lattes, but I would do the dishes. Uh, we would have small breakfast. We would talk about what we’re going to do for the day, maybe talk about how we slept.”
Cena said the couple would probably head to the gym after that. They don’t actually train together, but they enjoy being in the same space. There would apparently be one downside for Cena during the workout.
“We more than likely would agree that we’re going to the gym. We would both train. We don’t train together. She has her own path. I have my own path, but we like to be in the same space together, which is great.”
“She’s in charge of the music, so I would be in store for two hours of techno covers, which in itself is an exercise in patience for me.”
After training, Cena said they would hit a café together before giving each other several hours to pursue their own interests. For Cena, that would mean things like piano, languages, reading and potentially getting himself into financial trouble browsing cars.
“I would give the both of us probably three to four hours of individual time where I would go play piano. I’d try to maybe mess around with language a little bit. I’d love to read a little bit and probably look at the car market. Make an irresponsible decision that my wife will talk me out of. Thank you so much for saving me so much money. I appreciate you.”
Cena would then take Shay to dinner somewhere they could sit outside and watch the world around them. He envisioned espresso martinis, sharing food and possibly more than one bottle of wine. Then Cena got to how he’d like to finish the night.
“Get home safely and gosh, I would love some intimate time too at the end of the day, so, but that’s only gonna take me 90 seconds.”
Cena immediately kept the joke rolling before explaining that the real goal would be finishing the day connected to the person he loves most.
“So, uh, I mean, I can, we can work that out, you know. Uh, that ending the day with that intimate connection with the person I love the most and stretching it out, hopefully right till midnight would be getting the most out of the day.”
Hoda called it a “beautiful, perfect day,” but Cena’s 90-second admission definitely gave the answer a finish nobody saw coming. He may have retired from taking bumps in WWE, but apparently he has no problem taking one at his own expense.
What did you think of Cena’s brutally funny description of his perfect day with his wife? Was the “90 seconds” line the best part of the entire interview? Drop your reaction in the comments.
