John Cena might be teasing something even bigger than Club WWE for Backlash after all.
After days of people believing Cena’s “historic” WWE Backlash announcement was tied to Club WWE, there’s now talk backstage that the company could be hiding something much larger.
According to WrestleVotes, there was internal chatter backstage at SmackDown that Cena’s announcement may go beyond the fan-experience project everyone has been talking about.
“Backstage at SmackDown last night, there was some internal hope that tonight’s ‘historic’ announcement from John Cena goes beyond anything Club WWE related. That said, according to one source, if that’s the direction, it’s been kept very quiet behind the scenes.”
That’s a major shift from earlier speculation pointing directly at Club WWE being the focus of Cena’s appearance. Cena kicked off the hype earlier this week when he claimed his Backlash announcement could change WWE itself.
“In just a few days, I have a major announcement inside this building that is going to shock the very foundation of WWE. From its fans to its superstars, champions down to its rookies.”
He followed that up by calling it “history-making news” that would change the WWE experience for fans and talent alike.
“I am SO excited to break some history-making news! I can’t promise it’ll be perfect but I can promise it will change the WWE experience for Superstars and fans!”
Now, with WWE apparently keeping details locked down backstage, fans are back to guessing what Cena is really about to reveal at Backlash. Whatever it is, WWE clearly wants people talking heading into the event.
