The Wyatt Sicks didn’t disappear because they ran out of stories. Joe Gacy believes they disappeared because WWE lost confidence in everyone except Uncle Howdy.
Speaking on The Five Marks Podcast, the former Wyatt Sicks member shared his side of one of the group’s biggest mysteries, arguing that WWE essentially pressed pause on the entire act once Bo Dallas became unavailable instead of letting the rest of the faction keep the story alive.
“So it’s still a little unclear to me.”
Gacy admitted he doesn’t know every conversation that happened behind the scenes, but he understands one thing better than anyone. Bo Dallas was always the centerpiece.
“I realize that Bo was the center of the group and he obviously was the leader.”
Where Gacy believes things went wrong was everything that happened before Bo stepped away. According to him, WWE had already filmed individual character vignettes for every member of the Wyatt Sicks—videos that were supposed to tell fans who each person really was. Only one ever made television.
“I wish that we had a little bit more of a chance to develop individually because even when we had our VHS tapes, we all had different versions of what we had.”
Rowan’s emotional vignette aired. The rest never saw the light of day: “Rowan had his long promo one, which was great, very emotional, amazing.” Gacy then revealed that he, Dexter Lumis and Nikki Cross all filmed their own promos too. Fans just never got to see them.
“But then me, Dexter and Nikki all had promos that we shot, that we talked, and they didn’t use it.”
That’s the decision Gacy still thinks changed everything. Without those promos, he believes WWE never gave audiences a reason to connect with anyone beyond Uncle Howdy.
“So I just feel like they specifically didn’t let at least us three develop enough to the point where we can on TV have sort of a voice.”
As a result, the rest of the faction became supporting characters instead of fully developed personalities.
“So to me, unfortunately, at the time that was all going down… we all were almost background characters.”
Once Bo became unavailable, Gacy believes that lack of character development came back to haunt the group. Creative simply didn’t believe the Wyatt Sicks could survive without its leader.
“So, I guess, you know, creative didn’t feel that we as a character were strong enough to carry the group without Bo in that moment.”
Gacy couldn’t disagree more. He believes the faction absolutely could have kept going if WWE had spent more time building everyone else first.
“Which was unfortunate because I feel like had we had that chance to develop a little bit more, that they could have had maybe a little bit more trust in us to carry things on while he was out.”
In Gacy’s mind, the solution was simple. Keep the Wyatt Sicks active. Let the story continue. Then bring Uncle Howdy back when he was ready.
“Then we could have gotten involved in something and then when he was ready to come back, boom, big return for Uncle Howdy, I think would have gotten a great reaction.”
Instead, WWE chose a different route: “They kind of hit pause on us, which sucked.” Looking back, Gacy called it the first real setback the group faced creatively.
“I think unfortunately that was the first… I don’t know if I want to say mistake… but the first misstep with the group.”
He also understood why WWE acted the way it did. After everything surrounding Bray Wyatt’s passing, the company wanted to make sure Bo Dallas wasn’t rushed back before he was physically and emotionally ready.
“We all, you know, obviously we were worried about Bo, but we were also a little frustrated at the same time. But I think they were just trying to be extra careful considering what happened with Windham. They didn’t want to push Bo past any point that he couldn’t make.”
Even so, Gacy still believes the group could have carried the torch while Bo recovered if WWE had trusted the rest of the faction enough to stand on their own.
“Which is understandable. And, you know, again, I just wished early on they let us develop a little bit more individually so we can, you know, carry the group without them for a little bit if we needed to.”
It’s a revealing look behind the curtain—and one that shows the Wyatt Sicks’ biggest obstacle may not have been Bo Dallas’ absence itself, but the fact that the rest of the group never got the opportunity to prove they could keep the story alive without him.
