Jim Ross thought he was just getting a few moles checked. Instead, he walked out of the dermatologist’s office with multiple biopsies, a sore back and another anxious wait for medical results.
Speaking on the September 17 edition of Grilling JR, Ross revealed that his daughter encouraged him to schedule the appointment after noticing several moles on his back. He had gone through similar checks before, but this visit quickly became much more serious once doctors took a closer look.
“Goddamn, Conrad, did I tell you what happened today, this morning, as you and I are recording this?”
Conrad knew Ross had been scheduled to see a dermatologist and immediately asked how everything went. JR’s answer was short and to the point: “Not good.” Ross then explained what happened once the examination began. After taking off his shirt, doctors told him they had found several moles they wanted to investigate further, turning what he expected to be a routine visit into a much longer morning.
“I went to the dermatologist. My daughter wanted me to get my back checked, for I had some moles, and get them checked. Well, you know, I forgot how they did that because I’ve done it before. But when I got there and I took my shirt off, I was told that I had like seven or eight moles on my back that they were concerned about.”
Rather than waiting, Ross wanted to know what could be done immediately. Doctors told him they would numb the areas around each mole before taking tissue samples, explaining that a handful were tiny while a couple had grown noticeably larger.
“So, okay. Here we go. What can we do today? Well, what we have to do today is to numb your back around all those areas that you have those multiple moles. Some are very tiny. There’s a couple good-sized ones in there that’s kind of grown up, and we’ll numb you up, which creates an opportunity for an injection.”
Once the numbing was finished, doctors performed biopsies on all of the areas they were concerned about. Ross said the samples have now been sent away for testing, and he’ll have to wait around 10 days before finding out exactly what they’re dealing with.
“And man, oh man, then they took biopsies of all those multiple moles, and they’ll send those off. In about 10 days, I’ll have the results. I’m hoping it’s not the bad stuff.”
The procedure itself also took a toll on Ross. After spending months recovering from brain surgery, broken toes and ongoing health issues, he admitted his body has simply had enough of being poked and injected.
“There’s a couple good-sized ones in there that’s kind of grown up, and we’ll numb you up, which creates an opportunity for an injection. And my poor fat ass old body is so tired of injections ’cause it’s been that way all summer. Pain, this medicine, this, that, blah, blah, blah. So they numbed me up. I was miserable and cranky. I was a cranky f****** old man.”
The latest scare also reminded Ross that he’s still dealing with another lingering issue from his cancer treatment. He pointed out that despite undergoing 22 radiation treatments, the wound on his ankle still hasn’t completely healed, and he believes more treatment may be ahead.
“’Cause I’ve gone through 22 radiation treatments on my ankle that still isn’t healed. So, I’m sure I’m going to be recommended to go to a full-time wound doctor and try to get this son of a b**** healed. So, that was my morning.”
After everything was finished, Ross summed up the day the only way he could. Between the injections, biopsies and ongoing treatments, he said he left the doctor’s office feeling like he’d been through another battle.
“And I left there feeling like a pin cushion ’cause I’d been scraped on and shot and this, that and the other. So, here we go. Another journey down the highway of life.”
Bottom line: Ross has not revealed any diagnosis, and there is no indication that the moles are cancerous. For now, he’s simply waiting for the biopsy results and hoping, in his own words, that they’re “not the bad stuff.”
