Vince McMahon may not be done owning a wrestling company, and Jim Ross believes purchasing an existing promotion is absolutely possible.
During the latest episode of Grilling JR, Ross discussed McMahon’s future and said he expects the former WWE chairman to remain connected to professional wrestling. Ross said McMahon has spent too much of his life in the business to suddenly disappear from it.
“He ain’t out of the game. Vince isn’t out of the game. That’s just not his makeup.”
Ross believes McMahon’s next move will likely involve wrestling because it remains the industry he understands better than anything else.
“One would assume it’ll have maybe something to do with wrestling because that’s where he made his way. The world’s open to him. It just doesn’t seem like a lot of things interest him. He likes wrestling, and I think that’s where I’d see him headed.”
After Ross dismissed the idea of McMahon joining AEW, Conrad Thompson asked whether McMahon could instead purchase TNA or another established wrestling organization. Ross said that option cannot be ruled out.
“That’s possible. It’s possible. Yeah, of course it’s possible. Money won’t be an object. He’s got the cash to do whatever the hell he wants, at least that’s what I think.”
Ross then explained that he cannot picture McMahon moving very far away from the wrestling world.
“I can’t see him migrating too far from the barn where all the animals are. That would be my guess. That’s all it is, is a guess—that he’s going to be doing something that allows him to display his product knowledge.”
Ross also praised McMahon’s understanding of the wrestling business, despite everything that has happened during the past several years.
“God almighty, he’s got plenty of product knowledge. He should be fine.”
Buying TNA would immediately give McMahon a television-ready wrestling company, an established roster and decades of brand history. Starting from scratch would give him more control, but purchasing an existing promotion could put him back in the game much faster.
