Jasmin St. Claire just dropped a piece of her dating history that she apparently had no problem keeping quiet for decades. The former ECW personality says she briefly dated Motörhead legend Lemmy after moving to California, and the relationship didn’t end with some ugly breakup — the two remained close all the way until his death.
The revelation came during St. Claire’s appearance on the What Do You Call It podcast, when she was asked to pick three dream dinner guests. Lemmy made the cut alongside Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson and actor Crispin Glover, but there was a very personal reason behind that Motörhead selection.
“Bruce Dickinson because he speaks French and he’s intelligent and no, I don’t want him and think he’s hot. Lemmy for Motörhead obviously because we have a very big past and he was a lot of fun to speak with and would always, you know, speak sensible things and truthful things, and of course Crispin Glover because River’s Edge is my favorite movie.”
The host immediately picked up on the “very big past” comment and said he didn’t realize St. Claire had that kind of relationship with Lemmy. That’s when she casually revealed they weren’t just buddies hanging around backstage at concerts.
“I dated him when I first moved to California briefly, but we were friends till the end of his death—or till the, till his end of days when he died.”
The relationship eventually turned into a friendship, but St. Claire revealed there was another piece of their history she kept completely private. She said Lemmy told her about his health problems before the situation became public, and she refused to run around telling people what he had shared with her.
“I knew he was sick for a while, but it wasn’t my place. I knew he was sick prior to that. He told me, but, you know, if someone’s sick with something, it’s not your business or it’s not another party’s business to go telling people about their illness.”
St. Claire said she sat on that information for years because Lemmy’s health wasn’t hers to expose. As far as she was concerned, he was still living the life he wanted and doing exactly what he loved.
“So, I never said anything for years. And I get it. You know, he was living his life, doing his thing, doing his dream. And, you know, that’s all it is.”
Their friendship also wasn’t the kind that required constant texts and phone calls to survive. St. Claire recalled being in Australia for a convention, learning Motörhead happened to be in town and simply making her way backstage to see him. She said Lemmy’s road manager recognized her, she went downstairs and had a drink with Lemmy, and moments later he was on stage performing. Even after long stretches apart, St. Claire said there was never any awkward reunion period.
“Many years after, like we still had a friendship, friendship and, um, so, you know, we could meet up cities and towns later without really speaking much throughout like the year and things like—it just didn’t seem like a beat was missed, if that makes sense.”
Lemmy already has one of wrestling’s most famous rock connections through Triple H and Motörhead performing several WWE entrance themes.
