Jade Cargill thought she was heading into SummerSlam for a one-on-one fight with Charlotte Flair. Rhea Ripley’s injury blew that plan apart, but Cargill sounds more than happy with the replacement.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Cargill confirmed that she expected to face Charlotte before WWE switched gears and created an Interim WWE Women’s Championship Ladder Match.
Charlotte had repeatedly interfered in Cargill’s business, setting the stage for a singles showdown between the two. Cargill made it clear that she had unfinished business with Flair before WWE changed the card.
“I thought I was going into it with a one-on-one with Charlotte. She’s been costing me some big-time matches. I’m not happy about that.”
Those plans changed after Ripley was injured and WWE was forced to create an interim championship. Cargill, Charlotte, Tiffany Stratton and Chelsea Green have already qualified for the five-woman ladder match, with one final spot still open.
Cargill is not complaining about the switch. She sees the ladder match as a direct path back to championship gold—and she even took credit for Ripley being taken out of the picture. She then made her SummerSlam goal perfectly clear. Cargill believes she is chasing a championship that should still belong to her.
“Right now, some changes have been made, and I’m very happy about that. I took out Rhea Ripley—you’re welcome.”
“I have a clear path to taking back a title that I never truly lost.”
That comment will only add fuel to the idea that Cargill could be leaving SummerSlam with the Interim WWE Women’s Championship. A previous backstage update claimed WWE dropped the rumored Charlotte vs. Jade match because one of them was positioned to win the ladder match.
Cargill has now confirmed that the singles match with Charlotte was part of the plan before Ripley’s injury forced WWE to pivot. Instead of settling their issues one-on-one, they will now have to climb over each other and three other women with a championship hanging above the ring.
Jade Cargill lost her expected match with Charlotte Flair, but she may have gained something much bigger. SummerSlam now gives her the chance to walk out with a title and leave Charlotte staring up from the mat.
