IYO SKY might be next in line for a shot at the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship. She pinned Raquel Rodriguez on the October 19, 2026 episode of WWE RAW, and that victory may have earned her a much bigger opportunity. Now Dave Meltzer believes WWE is setting up a title match between the two, and it could happen within the next few weeks.

Speaking on the October 19 episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer discussed SKY teaming with Chelsea Green against Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez on RAW. The match ended with SKY catching Rodriguez in a cradle for the pinfall, giving her a victory over the reigning Women’s Intercontinental Champion. Meltzer believes WWE didn’t book that finish for no reason. He expects the result to lead directly into a championship match between SKY and Rodriguez.

“Sets up intercontinental championship match relatively soon. Probably within the next few weeks.”

That would be a pretty quick turnaround, but WWE has already been building tension between the two. As Ringside News covered during the October 12 episode of RAW, Rodriguez confronted SKY backstage while Roxanne Perez was arguing with Adam Pearce. Rodriguez accused WWE of forgetting about SKY, which led to an argument between the two women.

Now SKY has pinned Rodriguez in the middle of the ring, giving WWE an obvious reason to put them together again with the championship on the line. Meltzer also had plenty of praise for SKY’s performance on RAW, particularly her exchanges with Perez. He felt the match was one of the stronger parts of the show and made it clear that SKY stood out.

“Roxanne, you know, was better than usual and EO’s fantastic. And I actually thought this was a really, really good match.”

SKY and Rodriguez already have plenty of history. The two faced each other in a Queen of the Ring semifinal match back in June, and SKY has continued dealing with The Judgment Day throughout the year. A Women’s Intercontinental Championship match would give their rivalry something bigger to fight over.

WWE hasn’t officially announced SKY as the next challenger, and there’s no date set for a title match. But Meltzer clearly believes that’s where things are going, especially after WWE had SKY pin the champion rather than Roxanne Perez.

For now, Rodriguez still has the gold, but SKY has already beaten her. If WWE follows up on Monday’s finish, Rodriguez could find herself defending the Women’s Intercontinental Championship against someone who just proved she can put her shoulders on the mat.

Do you think IYO SKY should be the next Women’s Intercontinental Champion, or should WWE keep the title on Raquel Rodriguez? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
