One of the security guards escorting The 946 to the ring on RAW probably looked like just another extra doing his job. Turns out WWE slipped an actual wrestler into the group before the night’s chaos even got started.
Before Royce Keys faced Solo Sikoa on the November 2 episode of RAW, The 946 made their entrance surrounded by security. One of those guards has now been identified as independent wrestler Jay “The Key” Evans. He took to his Instagram story and confirmed his identity.
Evans has been working around the independent scene and has competed for promotions including Worldwide Dojo, TCW, SPO and Gotham Wrestling, among others. His RAW appearance saw him trading the wrestling gear for security attire.
Of course, security ended up being the least surprising part of The 946’s night. Keys’ match with Sikoa eventually descended into chaos after Bronco Nima, Lucien Price and Carmelo Hayes became involved, bringing Roman Reigns and The Usos into the fight.
Things took another turn when a masked man suddenly appeared and stopped Reigns from hitting Keys with a Spear. After throwing a steel chair at Reigns and dropping him with a clothesline, the mystery attacker removed his mask and revealed himself as Cruz Montana.
Montana then joined The 946 in beating down The Bloodline, giving him one hell of an introduction to WWE’s main roster. Instead of easing him into RAW, WWE immediately put him across the ring from Roman Reigns in one of the show’s biggest ongoing stories.
For Evans, the security role may have been brief, but appearing alongside one of RAW’s featured factions at Barclays Center is still a pretty cool WWE cameo for an independent wrestler. Wrestling fans have gotten very good at spotting familiar faces playing security over the years, and this time another indie name managed to sneak onto WWE television.
