Hulk Hogan opened up about one of the darkest periods of his life before his passing — revealing he took extreme amounts of fentanyl during his time in TNA.

In the Netflix docuseries Hulk Hogan: Real American, which served as his final interview before his death in July 2025, Hogan detailed how severe physical pain during his time in TNA Wrestling led him to rely on heavy doses of fentanyl.

Before explaining the extent of it, Hogan gave context to where he was mentally and physically at the time — coming off his 2009 divorce from Linda Hogan and needing to keep working despite his condition. He then described just how much medication he was taking to get through the pain, and the numbers alone raised serious concern.

“I was taking 80-milligram fentanyls, two in the morning, stuffing them under my gums here … I had two 300mg patches of fentanyl on my legs and they gave me six 1500mg fentanyl lollipops to eat.”

That level of use didn’t go unnoticed. Hogan recalled a moment at a pharmacy where even professionals were shocked by what he was taking.

“I went to the pharmacy, he goes, 'You should be dead. We have never seen a human being take this much fentanyl.'”

The reason behind it was just as serious. Hogan explained that the pain he was dealing with had gotten so bad it affected even the smallest movements, making daily life difficult. He also revealed how limited his mobility had become at that point, saying he couldn’t even rest normally due to the condition his body was in.

“If I just twitched my finger like that, my whole back would spasm and torque. I had to sleep in a chair.”

Bottom line — Hulk Hogan wasn’t just battling through matches during his TNA run, he was dealing with extreme physical pain that led to heavy reliance on medication just to function. The revelations paint a clearer picture of what he was going through behind the scenes during that stretch of his career.
