Matt and Jeff Hardy got hit with a brutal travel mess on August 8, but they weren’t about to leave fans hanging. After their flight to Roanoke, Virginia was canceled, the Hardy Boyz shelled out $1,700 for a car service just to make sure they still reached Big Lick Comic Con.
Matt Hardy explained the situation on Twitter after he and Jeff had already endured a very late night at House of Glory Wrestling. The brothers were at LaGuardia Airport by sunrise and ready to fly to Roanoke when their plans suddenly fell apart. Matt said they tried to find another flight into a nearby city so they could drive the rest of the way, but that option went nowhere too.
“Crazy day. After a very late night at @HOGwrestling, Jeff & I were at LGA at sunrise to fly to Roanoke for @biglickcomiccon & our flight was cancelled. We tried to change our flight to a nearby city where we could make the drive there — no luck.”
At that point, the Hardys had a choice: miss the appearance or find another way there. They chose the expensive option. Matt revealed they hired a car service that cost a staggering $1,700 so they could still get to Roanoke and meet the fans waiting for them.
“So what do we do to make sure that we see our dieHARDYs? Get a $1700 car service there. See ya soon, dieHARDYs!”
The Hardy Boyz were advertised for Big Lick Comic Con in Roanoke over the August 8-9 weekend, so the cancellation could have thrown their entire appearance into chaos. Matt and Jeff also had more than a standard autograph signing on the schedule. They were set for “The Hardy Party” on Sunday, August 9, an event featuring stories from their careers, along with a live performance from Jeff Hardy.
After a late night of wrestling, an early morning airport run and a canceled flight, plenty of people would have called it a day. The Hardy Boyz instead ate a $1,700 transportation bill to keep their commitment and get in front of the fans. That’s one hell of an expensive road trip, but Matt made it clear the priority was getting to Roanoke and making sure the dieHARDYs got what they came for.
