Gunther isn’t looking for cheers from the crowd — and he made it clear he’s perfectly happy staying one of WWE’s most hated stars.

Speaking on the Club 520 podcast, Gunther was asked whether he ever wants to hear fans cheer for him or if he’s thought about turning babyface. His response made it clear he embraces being the villain and has no issue staying that way long-term.

After being asked about fan reactions and whether he wants to be liked, Gunther explained that getting any reaction matters — but being hated is something he takes pride in.

“As long as it’s a reaction, I’m fine. I’m kind of proud of that. I can commit to being hated. I’m cool with that. I think a lot of guys struggle with that, that there’s no positive response. I really like it. I like to be the disruptor, and yeah, I try to stick with that for the rest of my career, to be honest. If somebody else can be the superhero, that’s fine for me.”

Gunther has built his reputation around dominating opponents and drawing loud boos from crowds, something that has helped define his WWE run. From long title reigns to brutal matches, he’s stayed committed to his role as a ruthless competitor who doesn’t care about winning fans over.

Still, he didn’t completely rule out the idea of eventually changing direction — but he made it clear that if it happens, it won’t be forced. When asked whether a face turn could ever happen, Gunther admitted the possibility exists, but only if it happens naturally.

“Maybe the day will come. Maybe it will shift at some point, but I’m not going to force it.”

Gunther has remained a heel throughout his WWE main roster run, drawing major reactions from fans while defeating some of the company’s biggest names. He even retired John Cena in Cena’s final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event back in December, adding another major moment to his résumé.

Now, Gunther is set for another huge spotlight match as he faces Seth Rollins on Night One of WrestleMania 42 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas — a bout that could easily steal the show.

Gunther has made it clear he doesn’t need cheers to feel successful — he’d rather be the villain fans love to hate. Do you think Gunther should stay a heel for the rest of his career, or would you want to see him eventually turn babyface?
