Daria Rae’s stalker is serving 15 years behind bars, but she knows that sentence eventually comes to an end. That reality hasn’t escaped her, especially because she claims he made it clear during his interrogation that once he gets out, he still intends to come after her.
While speaking on The Determined Society, Rae opened up about what happened legally after Philip Thomas II broke into her home in August 2020. She initially expected the case to go to trial and had already secured a permanent restraining order against him.
“And so, whatever. I did like a pre-trial thing. I got a permanent restraining order against him. And then we were supposed to go to trial, which I was quite looking forward to putting him behind bars for a long time.”
That trial never happened. Rae said her lawyer decided to offer Thomas a deal that could potentially put him behind bars for even longer than what they believed he might receive at trial.
“And then my lawyer called me and said, ‘I’m going to offer him a crazy deal, like, you know, more than I think he might get if we go to trial. And if he takes it, he takes it.’ And he took it. And so he’s in jail for 15 years.”
Knowing he’s behind bars obviously gives Rae some distance from what happened, but there’s another date sitting much further down the road. Thomas will eventually be released, and Rae admitted she already thinks about what her life needs to look like when that happens.
She joked that the sentence gives her a timeline to become “extremely wealthy,” but there’s a serious reason behind it. Rae wants enough money to have serious security measures in place by the time Thomas gets out.
“So that’s my timeline to get extremely wealthy so that I can have the measures in place because he had said… well, he like had tried to contact me from jail through attorneys multiple times, and then he had made it very clear in his interrogation, like, when he gets out, he gets out and he’s coming for the same thing.”
That becomes even more unsettling when Rae explains just how much information Thomas allegedly gathered before breaking into her home. According to her, it wasn’t limited to finding her address.
“So it’s… that’s the only uneasy part. He had addresses of every family member of mine, photos of my family members’ schools that their kids went to.”
Rae said Thomas had even tried another address before reaching her home. It belonged to an ex-girlfriend, and he apparently believed Rae was living there at the time.
“I mean, like, he had actually tried another address before coming to my house. It was an ex-girlfriend’s address. He thought I lived there. It’s… yeah, it’s crazy.”
Thomas received a 15-year prison sentence in 2023, along with another 15 years of probation. With time already served factored in, Rae estimated during the conversation that there could be roughly another decade before he gets out. That immediately brought her back to security.
“Maybe like 10. I think he got time served while it was all happening. Okay, so 10 years to have bodyguards and s*** like that.”
Rae can’t control what happens ten years from now, though, and she doesn’t want that uncertainty controlling the next ten years of her life either. She said faith is a big part of how she keeps herself from going down that road mentally.
“God and the universe. You just trust that all will be okay, and things will work out how they’re meant to work out. And then I do what I can that’s in… cuz that’s so far out of my control that I think for someone like me, I can’t even go there. I’m like, let me just do whatever I can do.”
That’s a long way from how Rae was thinking immediately after the break-in. Back then, she was so concerned about keeping someone away from her home that she seriously started talking to her father about digging a moat around it.
“But right after the incident, I was like… I was in a bad… I was like talking about building a moat around my house.”
This apparently wasn’t just Rae throwing out some ridiculous idea in the moment. She was actually calling her dad and trying to figure out how they could build one.
“These are real conversations I was having with my dad, and God bless my dad for dealing with me and listening to me because I’m calling him going, ‘Dad, what kind of… what kind of backhoe do we need to dig a moat?’”
Rae previously discussed Thomas’ intentions during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show in March 2025. She said his messages had become increasingly aggressive over the years and included threats involving both her and her family. Rae also revealed that he planned to kidnap her and prevent her from appearing at SummerSlam.
Years later, Thomas is in prison and Rae has been able to move forward, but knowing he will eventually get out means there’s still one part of this story she can’t completely put behind her. For now, she’s preparing for what she can control without allowing something that may happen a decade from now to dictate how she lives today.
