Since Imperium quietly fell apart, one question has continued to follow Gunther everywhere he goes. Why hasn’t he built another faction?
For the Ring General, the answer is simple: you can’t recreate something that only worked because it happened naturally. As far as he’s concerned, putting wrestlers together just for the sake of having a group almost never works, and he has no interest in forcing another version of Imperium onto WWE television.
Speaking to Complex Graps, Gunther explained that Imperium wasn’t the result of a creative decision. It was a relationship that already existed long before it became a faction fans recognized.
“The group was there because it was authentically and naturally there. Otherwise, to be in an alliance with somebody, or like in a working alliance, it has to really click on a personal level, naturally, for that to work. With Imperium, it was the natural fit.”
That same feeling simply hasn’t come along since the group dissolved. Rather than searching for new allies backstage or trying to surround himself with another stable, Gunther said he’s perfectly content walking into every fight on his own. In fact, he doesn’t think adding people around him would improve his position in WWE at all.
“Besides of that, I don’t have any big allegiances as now. I try to stick to myself and focus on my work. I don’t see how that would benefit me at the moment.”
The approach isn’t anything new for him, either. Long before Imperium existed, Gunther had already spent most of his career proving he didn’t need anyone standing beside him. That’s one of the biggest reasons he hasn’t felt any urge to replace the faction since it came to an end.
“The majority of my career I’ve been a solo act and I feel comfortable in that role, and I always did. So yeah, not missing anything.”
For now, don’t expect Gunther to suddenly recruit new allies or unveil another dominant faction. If another Imperium ever happens, it’ll be because the chemistry is already there—not because WWE needs another group on television.
