WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg has absolutely no interest in entering politics, and he believes his wild past would be one of the biggest reasons to stay away from it.
During an appearance on NewsNation’s BIFF podcast, Goldberg discussed his family, his professional wrestling career, and the importance of giving back to military veterans. The conversation eventually turned to whether the former WWE Universal Champion would ever consider taking his leadership skills into political office.
After listening to Goldberg explain his values and commitment to helping others, the host brought up the possibility of him pursuing a political career. He admitted the question was unexpected but wanted to know whether Goldberg had ever seriously considered it.
“Have you ever ever thought of running for political office?”
Goldberg didn’t hesitate to shut down the idea, laughing before explaining that his younger years could create problems if he ever decided to become a politician.
“Hell no. Hell no. For one reason. I mean, for a thousand reasons, but first and foremost, they look into my background. I I was a I was a crazy guy as a kid. You know, I I wasn’t the responsible parent that I am now. But, you know, uh it’s about evolution. And I had to do what I did as a kid to be the person that I am right now and to learn to appreciate every single thing that comes in front of me and not take advantage of of of anything.”
Goldberg wasn’t suggesting that he regrets everything about his past. Instead, he explained that the experiences he went through helped shape the man he eventually became. He believes personal growth comes from continuing to improve rather than focusing on mistakes made years earlier. The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion went on to explain his approach to life, stressing that everyone faces personal struggles but still has a responsibility to move forward.
“You know, life is what you make of it. And if you aspire to be at the top of the list, then every single day you should do something to get there. It’s about moving forward. It’s not about being stagnant. It’s not about going backwards. Every day is a struggle. No matter what situation you’re in, you know, you can compartment compartmentalize and you can, you know, everybody has their issue.”
“Everybody has the struggle. But if you get up every day with a smile on your face and you treat people the way you want to be treated and you work your ass off, then you then when you lay your your head down to bed, you have something to be proud of. And you just repeat that every day. And truthfully, you stand for a higher higher for a bigger reason than yourself.”
Goldberg also acknowledged the responsibility that comes with being a recognizable public figure. Between his professional wrestling career, NFL background, and acting work, he understands that people have looked up to him for decades. He explained that setting an example for younger generations, especially his own son Gage, has become one of his biggest priorities.
“As I said, my my job as a celebrity, as a ex-h Hall of Famer, a wrestler, an NFL player, I put myself on that pedestal for people to look up to and and I took that with pride and joy to be a leading force. Um, and that that is extremely important to me. Extremely important to me because I I I had a lot of good role models as a kid and and I now am a role model for a bunch of kids.”
“most importantly my son you know so uh every day is a struggle every day I got to make sure that he’s proud of what I do and it’s not about what you did yesterday it’s about the next play and so you just try to prepare yourself in any way humanly possible to attack the goal anything that comes up you know you got to you got to attack it you can’t sit back and let things happen you have to you have to be control of your situation but these days you have to tread very lightly”
Goldberg then admitted that he still has to be careful about how he handles certain situations. Despite becoming more disciplined as he has gotten older, he knows that his intense personality hasn’t completely disappeared.
“So, I pick and choose my spots. When I unleash myself, it it’s hard to bring me back, but uh I I like to think that I’m a product of my parents, and I think they raised a pretty logical human being. And now, not only do I have the responsibility as a parent, but I I have the responsibility every day when I walk outside of my house, you know, to treat people the way that they should be treated because I’m looked upon.”
“So, it’s a very, very tough situation, but it’s one that I set myself up for and I wanted to be this my entire life. So, I’m very lucky.”
Goldberg has spent much of his public life portraying one of professional wrestling’s most intimidating personalities, but he clearly has no desire to bring that intensity into the political arena. While he remains committed to helping veterans, children, and his community, he believes he can make a difference without pursuing elected office.
