Georges St-Pierre can wrestle, strike, grapple and pretty much dissect a fight better than almost anyone who ever stepped inside the UFC Octagon — but the RKO might be a different story.
The UFC legend dropped a new social media clip showing himself learning Randy Orton’s famous WWE finisher, and GSP approached it exactly how you’d expect. He wanted the positioning, timing and mechanics broken down before trying to hit the move himself.
Then came the actual attempt. GSP grabbed his training partner, launched into the motion and tried to plant him with an RKO. It wasn’t exactly the kind of picture-perfect execution Randy Orton has spent years making look effortless.
That didn’t stop St-Pierre from going back to work on it, though. The former UFC champion has always been obsessive about technique, and apparently that applies to pro wrestling finishers too.
Fans immediately started picking apart the attempt, and not everybody was ready to give GSP a passing grade. Considering Orton can seemingly hit an RKO out of nowhere from just about any position imaginable, GSP still has some catching up to do. Of course, nobody should be expecting him to look like a 20-year WWE veteran on his first few tries.
St-Pierre retired from MMA competition in 2017 after defeating Michael Bisping to become UFC Middleweight Champion. He had already cemented himself as one of the greatest welterweights ever, with nine successful UFC Welterweight Championship defenses on his résumé.
GSP may have conquered two UFC divisions, but Randy Orton can probably sleep easy for now. The RKO still belongs to The Viper.
Do you think Georges St-Pierre’s RKO was actually decent, or does he need a lot more practice before Randy Orton signs off on it? Let us know what you think and leave your feedback in the comments.
