FTR just lost the AEW World Tag Team Titles at Double or Nothing, and now their long-term future with the company is becoming a bigger talking point as they are in the option year of their current deals.

According to BodySlam.net, a major contract story is now developing around FTR, with Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler approaching a major point in their AEW deals. It was noted that FTR signed a four-year agreement with AEW in 2023, and the team is now nearing the option year of that deal.

“A major contract story is quietly developing within All Elite Wrestling involving two of the company’s top performers, sources tell us. According to sources familiar with the situation, Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler of FTR signed a four-year agreement with AEW in 2023. We’re told the team are now approaching the option year of that agreement, placing renewed focus on FTR’s long-term future within the company.”

BodySlam.net also noted that sources close to the situation described the former AEW Tag Team Champions as believing their value and consistency over the past several years should place them among AEW’s top-tier acts financially.

The report also stated that WWE has shown at least preliminary interest through mutual contacts. For now though, there is no sign that FTR are leaving AEW immediately, but their future beyond the option year is not fully clear.

“There has also reportedly been at least preliminary interest from WWE communicated through mutual contacts as the situation continues to draw attention internally. At present, there is no indication a departure is imminent, though FTR’s future beyond the current option year remains unclear.”

This comes after FTR lost the AEW World Tag Team Titles to Adam Copeland and Christian Cage in a violent “I Quit” match at Double or Nothing. The match saw weapons, interference from Stokely Hathaway, the ring being dismantled, tables set on fire, and Beth Copeland returning to help Adam use Spike on Dax Harwood until he said “I Quit.”

The title loss now comes at an interesting time, with FTR’s contract situation entering a more important stage. Whether AEW locks them in long-term or WWE eventually makes a serious push, Dax and Cash could become one of the biggest tag team contract stories to watch.

Do you think FTR should stay with AEW long-term, or would you like to see them return to WWE? Share your thoughts and feedback in the comments.
