Mike “Duke” Droese now has a trial date — and the former WWF star has until early next year to decide whether he wants to make a deal instead.
Droese is scheduled to stand trial on March 18, 2027 in Warren County, Tennessee on one count of Attempted Aggravated Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. The date finally puts a potential finish line on a criminal case that has been bouncing through the court system since his May 2025 arrest.
There is still a chance Droese never sees the inside of a courtroom for a trial. He has been given until January 27, 2027 to reach a plea agreement with prosecutors, and if that doesn’t happen, the case is set to move forward before a jury in March.
That’s a major change after months of delays. Droese had hearings postponed multiple times while the case remained stuck in the plea-or-trial-selection stage, leaving his legal future hanging in the balance.
The charge stems from allegations that Droese attempted to purchase child sexual assault material online in April 2024. Prosecutors have alleged that the transaction was flagged and stopped before the purchase was completed, which is why the charge is for an attempted offense. Droese was indicted in May 2025 and later released on a $10,000 bond. Droese has not been convicted of the current charge, and the allegations against him remain accusations unless proven in court.
Wrestling fans know Droese best from his 1990s WWF run as Duke “The Dumpster” Droese. He largely stopped wrestling full-time in 2001 but continued making occasional appearances over the years, including a match as recently as 2023.
So after more than a year of delays and rescheduled hearings, Droese finally has two dates that matter. January 27 is the deadline to work out a plea deal, and if that doesn’t happen, March 18 is when prosecutors are set to take their case against the former WWF star to trial.
