Former WWE star Viktor was apparently ready to call it a career, but there was one thing powerful enough to get him back in the ring for one final match — helping a friend battling ALS. The former Ascension member agreed to face Dalton Castle at Dream Pro Wrestling after Truth Magnum personally reached out and explained what the night was really about.
Truth told the story during an appearance on LiMPiN AiNT EASY, where he and Jamin Olivencia discussed Dream Pro Wrestling’s benefit event for Tanea “Rebel” Brooks. The show brought together a lot of people from their old OVW circle, with the mission centered around supporting Rebel as she battles ALS.
The event was Dream Pro Wrestling’s Outrunners Summer Vacation show in Louisville, Kentucky, with proceeds going toward I AM ALS in Rebel’s honor. The card included The Outrunners, Jay Lethal, Dalton Castle and several other names, but Viktor’s involvement carried a different kind of weight because Truth says he was already preparing to step away from wrestling. Truth explained that Viktor was another member of the same wrestling circle they had come up with years earlier, which made his decision to return for the benefit even more meaningful.
“Cool thing of the show too was another person in that group was Viktor of the Ascension, and he came and his last match was this match with Dalton Castle at the show.”
According to Truth, the Dalton Castle match wasn’t simply another independent booking for Viktor. He said Viktor was already on his way out of wrestling when Truth asked him about appearing.
“And that was a cool ending for him to come out and do this, cuz he’s already going to retire.”
Truth then revealed exactly what Viktor told him when he reached out about working the show. The former WWE star was essentially finished, but the fact that the event was being held for Rebel changed his answer.
“And when I asked him, he said, ‘I’m already pretty much done, but because it’s for Rebel, I’ll come and do it and see the boys again.’”
For Truth, having Viktor come back for that final match became another example of what made the Dream Pro event much bigger than simply putting wrestlers in a ring.
“So it was just another one of the awesome things that came out of the show.”
Viktor’s history makes the moment even more significant. He spent years alongside Konnor as The Ascension, including a run that made them one of NXT’s most recognizable tag teams before their move to WWE’s main roster. WWE eventually released Viktor and Konnor in December 2019, ending their lengthy run with the company.
Viktor has also been open about how differently things went once The Ascension reached WWE’s main roster. In a previous interview with Ringside News, Viktor explained how backstage politics affected The Ascension after their call-up, giving fans more insight into why the team never reached the same level on the main roster that they had in NXT.
Interestingly, the door to another Ascension run didn’t always seem completely shut. Earlier in 2026, Konnor said he would be open to an Ascension return to WWE under the right circumstances, specifically mentioning Viktor while discussing what it would take to bring the team back. Truth’s new story, however, makes it clear that by the time Dream Pro came calling, Viktor had told him he was already “pretty much done.”
The entire Dream Pro event was built around helping Rebel, and Truth said the wrestling community showed up in a huge way. Ticket sales had worried him heading into the show, but the night ultimately became a sellout and raised more than $7,000 for Rebel.
That makes Viktor’s final match one of the most personal pieces of the entire night. He didn’t come back because somebody waved a huge wrestling opportunity in front of him — according to Truth, he came back because Rebel needed support and because it gave him one more chance to see the boys before walking away.
If Dalton Castle really was Viktor’s final opponent, it’s a pretty fitting way for the former WWE star to close the book. After years in WWE, NXT and the independent scene, Viktor’s last trip through the curtain wasn’t about chasing another contract or another championship — it was about showing up for someone who mattered to him.
