Former WWE star Sunil Singh is counting his blessings after what he describes as the scariest night of his life. The former Singh Brothers member revealed he suffered a collapsed lung during a recent match and says doctors told him he was lucky to survive.
Taking to Twitter, Sunil shared a lengthy statement explaining that the injury happened while performing a move he’s executed countless times throughout his career. What initially seemed like a routine bump turned into a medical emergency that left him struggling to breathe. According to Sunil, X-rays taken at the hospital revealed that his right lung had collapsed from the impact. He said the emergency room doctor didn’t sugarcoat the situation.
“Lucky to be alive today. Saturday night was one of the most frightening experiences of my life. While performing in the ring, doing a move I’ve done for years, hospital X-Rays revealed I suffered a collapsed lung on my right side from the impact. The ER doctor said ‘You are very lucky to be alive. You had angels watching over you.’ Those words still echo through my ears.”
Sunil explained that he had no idea how serious the injury was while the match was happening. All he knew was that he couldn’t catch his breath, and things only got worse once he made it backstage.
“In those moments, I was gasping for air and struggling to breathe, not knowing what was happening or how serious it was. When the match finished and I got to the backstage area, I couldn’t get to my feet and was still finding it difficult to breathe. For a moment, it truly felt like I was facing death.”
After spending decades in professional wrestling, Sunil admitted he never imagined a move he’d performed for years could almost cost him his life. In that terrifying moment, his thoughts immediately turned to his family—especially his son.
“I’ve spent decades doing what I love, stepping into that ring and giving everything I have. Never did I imagine that a move I’ve performed countless times could lead to something so terrifying. I didn’t want to die and the only thing I could think of at the time was ‘How will I take my son to hockey and get onto the ice with him?'”
Sunil also took time to thank everyone who helped him that night, including the promotion, the locker room and, most importantly, his brother for helping get medical assistance to the venue as quickly as possible.
“I’m incredibly grateful to be here, and I want to thank everyone at Pure Power Wrestling, the locker room and especially my brother, that helped get the medical team to the venue on time.”
Although the immediate danger has passed, Sunil said he’s still got more medical appointments ahead and is focusing on recovering one day at a time.
“I’ll be going for follow up appointments soon and I’m taking things one breath, one day, and one step at a time.”
He reflected on everything he’s built since leaving WWE, saying the past five years have been among the most fulfilling of his career. After working so hard alongside his brother to rebuild their careers, he’s determined not to let this setback define what’s next.
“The past 5 years, post WWE, have been some of the most rewarding and hardworking years of my life and I don’t want any of it to go to waste. My brother and I have worked tirelessly to land back on our feet. Thank you everyone for your continued and endless love & support. 🙏”
Thankfully, Sunil is recovering after an injury that could have ended far differently. Everyone at Ringside News wishes him a full and speedy recovery, and hopefully his next update is about getting back to full health rather than another trip to the hospital.
