Heath Slater is not begging WWE for a return, but he is making one thing very clear — if they call, he is picking up.
While speaking to David Otunga, Heath Slater was asked about possibly going back to WWE. He said the company already knows how to reach him, and he is staying ready just in case that call ever comes.
“They got my damn number, my email. All they have to do is call me and hit my damn music because I’m ready for it. I’ll go and do it. You know, why not? I only have a handful of years left, like I said before in this podcast.”
That is vintage Slater. He knows where he is in his career, but he also knows there is still gas left in the tank. He made it clear that if WWE pitched him something, he would not need much convincing.
“But if they ever called and said, ‘Oh, Heath, we’d like to try this.’ I would say, ‘Baby, book my ticket. Hit my music. Let’s do it.’”
Slater even floated the idea of being thrown into a storyline with Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal, his old 3MB brothers. He said he would be down for that, even if it meant they helped him win something huge.
“Even if they both came and helped me win, I don’t even care. And it would be some storyline that could be cool for some people.”
Then Heath took it even further. He said he would win a title if WWE wanted him to, and he would have no problem dropping it the very next night.
“I’ll win the title. Let me win it at this pay-per-view. And if you need me to lose it next Monday, that’s fine, too. I ain’t going to keep it, you know, like whatever. I’m a team player here. I can lose the title.”
That is the kind of attitude WWE probably remembers well. Slater was always the guy who could make almost anything work, whether it was comedy, underdog babyface stuff, or getting thrown into a wild nostalgia moment. He said he keeps himself ready because he knows wrestling can change fast.
“I tell everyone they got my email, they got my number, they want it. That’s why I’m always trying to stay ready, you know? I’m trying to stay in shape. So if it ever would happen, well, hell yeah. I can answer the call.”
This comes years after Slater was released by WWE during the 2020 pandemic cuts, despite signing a five-year deal in 2019. He later said he knew something was wrong when he saw Mark Carano’s name on his phone. Slater recalled asking Carano if COVID was really what took him out after all those years in WWE.
“I look on my phone. Mark Carano. I said, damn it. I knew it. I called Carano up. He was like, ‘Hey, pal.’ I was like, ‘You tell me after all these years, COVID takes me out?’ He was like, ‘Hey, pal. Bro, I’m sorry. I literally have like 30 more calls to make.’ I said, damn, bro, what the fck? He was like, ‘I know, it’s crazy. I know. I’m sorry.’”
Since then, Slater had a solid run in TNA and is now a free agent. That makes the timing of his comments pretty interesting, especially with Royal Rumble surprises, nostalgia acts, and old faction reunions always on the table. Heath Slater may not be chasing WWE, but he is absolutely leaving the door open. If the music hits, he sounds more than ready to walk through it.
